Summer Staff Opportunities

The following staff positions are available each summer with MCC. To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and completed application. Summer Staff Application (PDF Format Staff Applicaton)

Swamper - The Swampers play an integral role in the kitchen and work project departments as it pertains to spike preparation and operation. They will also head staff with projects logicstical support.

Cook - The Head Cook is responsible for the overall operation and management of food services at the residential site. Responsibilities include menu planning, food ordering, meal preparation, and food packing for crews that go off of the residential site (often for two weeks).

ASL Interpreters - Interpreters fill many roles: Crew Leaders, Assistant Crew Leaders, Assistant Directors, etc. MCC engages youth who are deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing in inclusive crews. Internship opportunities are available.

Assistant Crew Leader - Assistant Crew Leaders share the same responsibilities as the Crew Leader, however do not lead a crew by themselves. They assist with all aspects of the day including work, education, and crew management.

Crew Leader - Crew Leaders are the backbone of the MCC residential program and play a key role in achieving MCC goals. The responsibilities include: to supervise, motivate, direct, and coordinate a crew of young people in a rigorous program of work, education, and training.

Wilderness Crew Leader and Assistant Crew Leader - Wilderness Crew Leaders are responsible for leading crews of youth who have prior conservation corps experience. The Wilderness Crew focuses on leadership development of the members and will have some projects in more remote locations.

Interpreters - MCC is recruiting Interpreters and individuals skilled at American Sign Language. We are looking for experienced and responsible individuals to supervise and work with high school aged youth on conservation work projects.  Applicants should have experience camping, enjoy working and living in an outdoor setting, and willingness to work with tools.

Education Coordinator - The Education and Activities (EA) Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of environmental and life skills program. The goals of the education program are to better the youth’s appreciation and awareness of the natural world along with providing career counseling and life skills development.

Work Projects Coordinator - The Work Projects Coordinator (WPC) is responsible for the planning, development, scheduling, and implementation of work projects for up to 14 crews. The WPC is responsible for the training of staff and youth in the following areas: hand tool use, conservation work projects, positive work ethics, worksite safety, and reporting of work accomplished.

Assistant Director - The Assistant Director provides operation support to the Site Director. Responsibilities include facilitating leadership development, vehicle management, discipline of youth, public relations, and overall safety of participants.

Summer Youth Opportunities

All young people, 15 to 18 years old, are welcome to apply to our Summer Youth Program. For more information about the program, visit our Summer Youth Program page.

MCC has three types of positions available to youth.

Corps Member - The corps member position is available to all young people between the ages of 15 to 18 years old. Corps members participate in the full eight week program. (PDF Format CM Application)

Wilderness Crew Member - Wilderness crew members work on a crew of youth who have had previous conservation corps experience, either in the MCC or in another corps. These crews focus on leadership development and may have work projects in remote locations. (PDF Format WCM Application)

Youth Leader - Youth leaders work closely with crew leaders to provide leadership and guidance to crews of first year corps members. Youth leaders are required to have previous conservation corps experience. Previous leadership experience is also very valuable. (PDF Format YL Application)
