The Minnesota Conservation Corps (MCC) is seeking an Education/Activities (E/A) Coordinator for its Summer Youth Program. The residential site is located at St. Croix State Park near Hinckley, MN. This position is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing educational and recreational activities for 90 high school aged youth. Educational activities include environmental awareness, outdoor skills, resume writing, self responsibility, deaf awareness, and many other youth development and learning activities. The setting for these activities may range from classroom to campsite to trail. The E/A Coordinator assists in many of the activities at the residential site. The E/A Coordinator prepare 2-week educational packets for crews while at a work site away from the residential site. Recreational activities are also the responsibility of the E/A Coordinator. These activities may include but are not limited to: canoe trips, hiking, field trips, and other special activities for crews when they are away from the residential site. 95% of what MCC does, whether it is educational, recreational, or work related, is outdoors and in all climates. The E/A Coordinator is also responsible for evening and weekend activities.
LOCATION: St. Croix State Park, Hinckley, MN
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have teaching credentials or experience in a classroom, be well organized, self motivated and enjoy working with youth in an outdoor setting. MCC's approach to education is experiential-based as opposed to lecture-based teaching. A strong environmental and youth oriented background is required. Proven leadership and speaking abilities are essential to this position. Strong organizational skills, creativity, and versatility are important skills in working with a diverse group of MCC youth. The candidate must be able to do repetitive bending and lifting of up to 20 pounds. Must demonstrate ability to provide strong leadership for dynamic program is essential. This is an on-site live-in position. A valid driver's license is required. First Aid and CPR certifications are required. Teaching credentials are desirable. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) will perform background checks before offers of employment are made.
BENEFITS: Up to $400 per week, depending on experience, plus room & board. An AmeriCorps Education Award of $2362.50. Staff will receive Wilderness First Aid certification.
