Deployment: 2/10/2007 - 3/08/2007
Designation: Lake County, FL

Storms hit Lake County in north-central Florida early the morning of February 2nd, damaging hundreds of houses and leaving more than 10,000 residents without power. Ten MCC corpsmembers deployed to Florida on Saturday, February 10th to assist in the tornado relief effort. During the one month stint, Corpsmembers will be removing debris, sawing hazard trees, "blue roofing" (putting tarps on roofs to prevent further water damage), providing camp support, and operating a phone bank processing work orders from residents with damaged property. MCC corpsmembers joined crews from AmeriCorps NCCC, members from the Washington Conservations Corps, and other volunteer groups.

February 17, 2007

Please let us express our Thanks and Appreciation for the job ten young people from the Minnesota Conservation Corps did yesterday.

Our three acre yard looked like a disaster area.  We thought it would take months to clean up.  They did it in one day.  Oh how they worked; only took a break for lunch.  They didn't stand around.  Everywhere you looked someone was busy.

They were so nice and courteous.  To us they were just extraordinary.
