| Young adult crew prescribed to The Nature Conservancy |
 |
MCC is excited to announce the creation of a new young adult crew, the Prescribed Burn Crew. This new crew will be dedicated to the Nature
Conservancy near Brainerd, MN. The Nature Conservancy covers +300,000
acres in central Minnesota and includes the communities of Brainerd, Baxter, Pillager, Motley, Staples, Little Falls, Randall, Barrows and Fort Ripley.
The Nature Conservancy protects and manages natural lands to ensure continued biodiversity. One conservation method includes fire management. Wild land fire is a natural process and has been altered by human activity and land use. With help from a the National Fire Plan Grant through the DNR Firewise program, the Nature Conservancy will be using the crew to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires while restoring natural ecological systems.
Over the next year, the crew will assist in implementing almost 100 fire and fuels based projects effecting nearly 20,000 acres. MCC is currently taking applications
for crew leader and crew member positions of this crew. Please visit the Young Adult Program section of MCC's web page to learn more. |

| Remember Eli Segal - Father of AmeriCorps |
 |
|
In memory:
Eli Segal, the first CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, passed away in February from a mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer. He was 63.
Eli helped shape the 1993 national service legislation, immediately placed 20,000 new AmeriCorps members in the field and managed the creation of the new federal agency, the Corporation for National and Community Service. Under his leadership, the CNCS combined Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, and Learn and Serve America.
MCC became an AmeriCorps program in 1996 as part of the national service initiative.
