Conservation Corps Iowa crews have installed a canoe take-out above a dam near Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Working from mid October to November, they also built a portage trail and canoe input below the dam. In the past, canoeists had to find their own way around the pass and many came close to going over the dam. They scaled riverbanks, pushed through brush and trespassed on landowner’s property ― creating dangerous situations for both canoeists and the riverbank environment. The crew also helped install a small road so emergency vehicles can access the dam in case of an emergency.
