Corpsmember spotlight: Eva Johnson

Eva Johnson is a stand-out corpsmember at Conservation Corps Minnesota.  As our water recreation specialist since February 2009, she devotes time to four big projects: water trails, Adopt- A-River, public water accesses and scenic easements. Unlike other young adult corpsmembers who work in crews, Eva’s single-member assignment is to be a liaison between the Minnesota DNR and Conservation Corps crews in the field. She helps bring more work the Corps’ way and creates opportunities for crews and staff to connect.

Why does she stand out? Eva sets up volunteer activities such as the Adopt-a-River riverboat clean-up. All of our central crews and staff come together for a day in June to clean up the banks of the Mississippi.  In the spring and fall, she provides environmental education on Big River Journey which gives fourth through sixth graders an opportunity to experience the Mississippi on a riverboat. Most recently, she assisted Conservation Corps crews with using GIS to digitize Minnesota canoe and trail maps.

“The Corps is a good opportunity for post-college graduates to gain skills in environmental conservation,” Eva says. “To be honest, I wish I would have known about it sooner.”
