John Velin, Chair, John has been in public service for more than 40 years, and for 20 years directed the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources. He managed Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund allocations for protecting and enhancing natural resources. |

Robby Callahan Schreiber, First Vice Chair Robby is youth program manager for the Science Museum of Minnesota’s Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center. Robby was a Conservation Corps Summer Youth Program crew leader and coordinator for four years and has held several teaching positions in environmental education for high school and undergraduate students.

John Lilly, Second Vice Chair John has served Minnesota State Parks for 15 years, currently as legislative and human resource manager. Previously, he was program coordinator for the Department of Natural Resources Trails & Waterways and founded the Minneapolis Inner-City Women’s Fast-pitch Program.

Barbara Sommer, Secretary Barbara has been an oral historian for 30 years. She authored, Hard Work and a Good Deal: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Minnesota, published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. The book has won several awards including a 2009 Minnesota Book Award. Barbara helped found the Oral History Association of Minnesota and the Nebraska Foundation for the Preservation of Oral History.

JerJian Koh, Treasurer JerJian, a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor is an audit supervisor with Boyum & Barenscheer PLLP, working primarily with nonprofits. A native of Malaysia, she moved to Minnesota 14 years ago.

Mark Skeie Mark is founder of the nonprofit, Mapping Your Retirement, and serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Board on Aging, Vital Aging Network, Senior Corps and Environmental Action Committee. For more than 30 years, he served in various 3M management positions.

Craig Acomb Craig is Minnesota Department of Health chief financial officer. He previously served in various Minnesota Department of Natural Resources management positions and was a past regional manager and state director of the Minnesota Conservation Corps before it transitioned to a nonprofit. Craig served on MCC’s nonprofit board as vice-chair. He also served on the National Association of Service and Conservation Corps board (now Corps Network).

Neil Cunningham Neil is outreach coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Invasive Species Exclusionary Unit and an adjunct faculty member with Capella University’s Writing Program. Previously, he managed a teaching greenhouse for MDA’s Biological Control Program where he reared insects, collected seeds, grew native plants and mentored youth.

Rolf Hagberg Rolf, a professional photographer for more than 20 years, has been affiliated with the Conservation Corps since 1976. He served as camp director for both the Youth Conservation Corps and Young Adult Conservation Corps when they were federal programs. In the late 1990s, Rolf helped found the nonprofit “Friends of the Minnesota Conservation Corps,” which assumed operation of MCC (now Conservation Corps Minnesota) in 2003. He also served as MCC development director.

David Hile David spent his career in law enforcement, including U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals bailiff and Hennepin County jail administrator and probation officer. His father served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s.

Tom Jahnke Tom served as Three Rivers Park District senior forestry manager for 33 years prior to retiring in 2008. As forestry manager, he developed a partnership with the Conservation Corps to support a five-member crew stationed with the park system.

Michael Nevala Michael is principal environmental scientist for the Metropolitan Council. He has worked in various environmental, educational and conservation positions with the National Park Service, State of California and University of Minnesota. In the 1970s, he served in the California Conservation Corps in the Sierra Nevada mountains. All three of his children have participated in the Conservation Corps Summer Youth Program.

Janet Timmerman Janet is program coordinator for the Pipestone Active Living Partnership. In 1993, she served in the Minnesota Conservation Corps and worked on flood recovery in the aftermath of Upper Mississippi floods. In the late 1990’s, she served on the Youth Corps Advisory Council in Minnesota and later on the Friends of the Minnesota Conservation Corps board. Her son served in the former MCC’s summer youth and young adult programs.
