In all, 44 sites along 26 miles of the Cannon River were cleaned up.
MCC prepares for bike tour
MCC corpsmembers put up a log shelter along the Douglas Trail in preparation for the May 9 Lieutenant Governor's Bike Ride. The purpose of the ride is to demonstrate how recreational state trails, highway shoulders and low-use county roads can be used for various bicycle tours.
Bird Watching
Lynelle Hanson, an MCC corpsmember, performed a field study of the the rare Henslow's Sparrow during the summer of 1987. Hanson spends 40-50 hours a week standing in a hot meadow or sitting on her car at night to learn more about these sparrows. Experts didn't know much about them at all and they were on the special concerns species list. Her work this summer is meant to learn more about the Henslow's, where they nest, how they interact, and what is needed to make sure they don't become extinct.
