Lake Superior Conservation Corps
This program ran from July to September and was devoted to meeting the natural resource needs around Lake Superior. The corps was comprised of 18 young adults from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Some of their work included surveying shoreline erosion problems from Duluth to the Canadian border, constructing a 270-foot erosion control wall at Temperance River State Park, re-routing a hiking trail on Madeline Island, and park land rehabilitation for the City of Marquette, MI.

Lake Superior Conservation Corps is nationally recognized and receives award
Gov. Rudy Perpich presented Larry Fonnest and the Lake Superior Conservation Corps with an award for outstanding stewardship on public lands in the Take Pride in America national awards campaign. The plaque said, "In recognition of your outstanding contributions to America's natural and cultural resources."
