"...enjoy life to its fullest, welcome new challenges, respect each other, yourself, and the earth, and most importantly let the childlike spirit within all of us flourish!"
Sun, Spikes, Work & Fun
Can you imagine waking up to the sun rising over Voyageurs National Park then realizing you still have to work today? Sixteen corpsmembers of the MCC summer program did. Two crews spent two weeks each on Lake Kabetogama in Voyageurs National Park. The crews constructed a 3-mile trail, 152 feet of bridge building, and a parking lot for the trail. These spikes were two of 40 different spike projects over the 8-week program. Projects ranged from wolf pen construction, trail construction and maintenance, and various carpentry projects.

In all 67 corpsmembers and 12 crew leaders completed projects throughout Northern Minnesota. Project sponsors included the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Minnesota State Parks, DNR Forestry, other DNR divisions, and a handful of non-profit environmental organizations.
